Quando se fala em skinhead pub, o primeiro nome que vem à mente é De Kastelein. Situado na bela cidade belga de Brugge, De Kastelein foi fundado no ano de 1999 por Suck (vocalista do Les Vilains) e Rianne. O skinhead pub mais conhecido do mundo já teve as melhores e mais importantes bandas skins se apresentando por lá (inúmeras, diga-se de passagem). O local se tornou um verdadeiro meeting-point para os amantes da boa música e da boa cerveja, de modo que o ambiente amistoso e genuinamente skinhead fez com que pessoas de todas as partes do mundo fossem até o pub para tocar, assistir a uma gig, ou simplesmente levantar uns copos de Stella Artois ou Hoegaarden.
Esta coletânea (à venda no próprio pub) foi produzida para auxiliar o De Kastelein financeiramente, e traz no track list, 22 bandas que já se apresentaram por lá. As faixas, extraídas de CDs, demos e EPs foram cedidas pelas respectivas gravadoras e bandas. Difícil dizer quais as melhores bandas desta coletânea, mas as minhas favoritas são Resistance 77, Les Vilains, The Veros, The Skinflicks, Razorblade, Section 5, Super Yob e Kampfzone.
Se para os skins o De Kastelein era um lugar sagrado (uma casa de família!), para a polícia e as autoridades belgas, este era um lugar maldito! Sob muita pressão, o pub chegou a ficar fechado por algum tempo. Para diminuir a “perseguição”, teve de ser reaberto com o nome de Moloko, abrindo espaço para outras subculturas além do skinhead. Enfim, uma ótima coletânea!
When it comes to skinhead pub, the first name that comes to mind is De Kastelein. Situated in the nice city of Bruges, De Kastelein was founded by Suck (Les Vilains) and Rianne. The most famous skinhead pub in the world already had the best and most important skinhead bands on its stage. The pub quickly became a real meeting-point for the lovers of the good music and good beer. So its friendly and skinhead environment had attracted visitors from all over the world just hanging out, watching to a gig or just to raise their glasses of Stella Artois or Hoegaarden.
This compilation (for sale in the pub) has been made to support the pub financially. The track list brings 22 bands who have had played in the pub already. The tracks were taken from CDs, demos and EPs with the help of the respective bands and labels. It’s a bit hard to say which are the best bands on this compilation, but I really enjoyed Resistance 77, Les Vilains, The Veros, The Skinflicks, Razorblade, Section 5, Superyob e Kampfzone.
De Kastelein was a “sacred place” for skinheads, but it was a real damned place for the Belgian cops and justice! Authorities had put pressure on the owners in a way that they had to shut up the pub for a while. After some time, the it was re-opened with a new name (Moloko), becoming a place for other subcultures besides the skinhead. In sum, it’s a great compilation!
